2 more held over attacks on Santals

Police in overnight drives arrested two more people for their alleged involvement in the attacks on the Santals in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.

The arrestees are Jony Mia, 41, and Rana Babu, 50, residents of Nasirabad village in Gobindaganj upazila, said Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Police Station Subrata Kumar Sarkar.

Jony and Rana will be produced before court later in the day, the OC added.

With this, a total of 12 people have so far been apprehended in connection with the attacks on the Santals on November 6 when a triangular clash ensued among the indigenous people and the workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills and police following an attempt by the workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill to evict the Santals from the mill area.
