2 held over Joypurhat schoolgirl rape

Police today arrested two alleged rapists of a schoolgirl in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat.

The arrestees are identified as Mahbub Hossain, 40, son of late Sabir Uddin and Ezabul Hossain, 27, son of Feraz Mia of Bandighi village under Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided their houses early today and arrested them, said Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Kalai Police Station.

Later, police produced them before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Iqbal Bahar this afternoon seeking seven days remand for each, but the court granted three-day remand for each.

A gang of criminals entered the house of the class IX student on Friday night and reportedly raped her locking the doors of her parents' living room.

Criminals also stabbed the girl, who is now undergoing treatment at the neurosurgery ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The girl is still in unconsciousness state, said her father.

Earlier on Sunday night, doctors of Ziaur Rahman Medical College referred her to DMCH.
