Woman dies after having caesarean at Savar hospital

A woman died yesterday after she had a caesarean section in a Savar private hospital.

Arifa Akhter, 28, wife of Md Hanif of Bokterpur in Savar, was admitted to Savar Prime Hospital Ltd and gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday.

She was declared dead at Enam Medical College Hospital (EMCH) on arrival.

She died from internal bleeding as one of her blood vessels was cut during the operation, Md Sohel Rana quoted an EMCH doctor as saying.

Dr Khaleda Khatun Anny, who conducted the surgery, could not be contacted over the phone despite repeated attempts.

As per the directive of Dr Md Amin Uddin, upazila health and family planning officer, a committee comprising three doctors of Savar Upazila Health Complex was formed to investigate the incident.

The committee was asked to submit its report within seven working days.
