Police yesterday found a covered van, which had gone missing on the way to Dhaka from Chittagong early Thursday with imported fabrics, abandoned and empty in Savar.

Driver Abdul Malek was admitted to Gonoshasthaya Hospital as he was drugged by robbers in Comilla's Eloitganj, said Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohsinul Qadir.

The van was stationed by the road in Nabinagar around 2:30pm, he said.

The driver felt sick after taking tea during a stopover near Comilla cantonment, the OC quoted Malek as saying.

When he reached Eliotganj, he asked his helper Shipon to bring him a glass of water, he said.

According to Malek, he became consciousness just after taking a sip of water. He suspects Shipon, who was employed only two days ago, worked for the robbers.

Shipon has been absconding since the incident, said police.

The vehicle, owned by New Generation Fashion in Dhaka's Jurain, was carrying 25,600 metres of fabrics worth Tk 58 lakh, said factory director Biman Bihari Talukder.
