He died at the ICU of Chattogram Medical College Hospital around 6:00am, said Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahedul Kabir.

“An inquest examination of his body has been completed. Legal procedures are underway,” he said.

According to police, Al Amin was riding a motorcycle while chasing the suspected muggers from a checkpoint at WASA intersection when a speeding bus of Leaders School and College hit him from behind near the west gate of Jamiatul Falah Mosque.

The bus reportedly dragged him for around 50-100 feet, leaving him critically injured.

Fellow police personnel detained the bus driver and his assistant and seized the vehicle.

The OC said bus driver Mosharraf, 38, and his helper Joy Das, 30, were arrested in a case filed under the Road Transport Act.

CMP Deputy Commissioner (South Division) Habibur Rahman Pramanik said Al Amin’s family would receive financial compensation in accordance with the law, as he died while on duty.
