SUB inaugurates Research and Publication Department

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) formally inaugurated its Research and Publication Department with the aim of strengthening research capacity, promoting quality academic publications, and advancing research that creates meaningful impact on society.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr Ruhul Abid, MD, PhD, Professor at Brown University Alpert Medical School; Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship programme; member of the Global Health Advisory Committee at Brown University; and President of Health and Education for All (HAEFA), as the chief guest.

Prof. Dr Ruhul Abid formally inaugurated the department by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. He later delivered a special presentation titled “Research and Publication in Improving Clinical and Health Care Delivery Service". In his presentation, he emphasised that research should extend beyond the generation of knowledge and academic publication to address real-world challenges, improve healthcare delivery, and contribute to better outcomes for communities. He encouraged students and researchers to pursue relevant, evidence-based, and impact-orientated research that can translate knowledge into meaningful public benefit.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr A M Shamim, President of the Board of Trustees of SUB and Managing Director, Labaid Group, emphasised that the true purpose of research lies in its ability to create positive social impact and contribute to human welfare. He highlighted the importance of building a strong culture of reading, knowledge-sharing, critical inquiry, and research across the university. He also encouraged faculty members and students to pursue research that brings meaningful change to society and supports practical solutions to human and community needs.

The ceremony was also addressed by Prof. Dr M A Rashid, Emeritus Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Dhaka University, and Adviser to the Department of Pharmacy, SUB; Prof. Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser, SUB; and Brigadier General (Retd) Dr Afzalur Rahman, Principal of State College of Health Sciences.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr Md Hassan Kawsar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of SUB, stated that the newly established Research and Publication Department will provide a structured platform for advancing research excellence across the university. He expressed his confidence that the department will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support high-quality research and scholarly publications, and strengthen the capacity of faculty members, students, and researchers. He further noted that research generated at SUB should contribute to society, industry, healthcare, and national development through practical application and knowledge-driven solutions.

The event was attended by deans of different schools, the proctor, department chairpersons, faculty members, researchers, and university officials.
