Zahidul Islam Simon, a first-year student of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Rajshahi University (RU), who was airlifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment after suffering a stroke, died while undergoing treatment today.

He breathed his last at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka in the evening, said RU Proctor Prof Mahbubur Rahman.

"Simon passed away a short while ago while receiving treatment in Dhaka. His family members are with him, and they will receive his body from the hospital," the proctor said.

Simon suddenly collapsed at his dormitory on Saturday night. Fellow students rushed him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where doctors diagnosed him with a stroke. As his condition deteriorated, he was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Given the medical emergency, the university arranged an air ambulance to transfer him to Dhaka for advanced treatment. He was flown from RMCH to Dhaka on Sunday.
