DU hosts international seminar on regional input-output analysis
The Center for Trade and Investment (CTI) at the University of Dhaka, in collaboration with Ritsumeikan University, Japan, organised the 2nd International Seminar on Regional Input-Output Analysis on February 23 at the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka.
The day-long seminar was attended by academics, researchers, policymakers, and master’s and PhD students from Bangladesh and Japan, according to a press release.
Professor Dr Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at the University of Dhaka, attended the event as chief guest. Special guests included Professor Kazuo Inaba, Professor Takahiko Hashimoto, Professor Shuji Matsuno and Zhu Ningxin from Ritsumeikan University; Professor Ishiro Taku from Yokohama University; Professor Toshiaki Yamai; and Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh.
The seminar was coordinated by Professor Muhammad Shariat Ullah and Professor Dr Mohammad Thoufiqul Islam, Director of CTI, who delivered the welcome speech.
Speakers highlighted the growing importance of regional and global input-output analysis in understanding trade diversification, value-added trade and economic sustainability in industrial zones.
The programme featured three presentation sessions and seven research presentations on international trade, regional economics, value-added analysis and policy-oriented economic research.
Organisers said the seminar concluded with a commitment to strengthen Bangladesh–Japan academic collaboration and promote data-driven policy research and international academic partnerships.
