Prime Bank joins hands with BAU on climate-resilient farming
Prime Bank PLC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) to support an agricultural research initiative under the bank’s special corporate social responsibility fund.
The MoU was signed to implement a special project titled “Climate Resilient Sustainable Crop, Fisheries and Livestock Development in Haor Agro-Ecosystem of Bangladesh”.
Faisal Rahman, chief executive officer of the bank, and Prof Md Hammadur Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES), signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the bank’s head office in Dhaka yesterday, according to a press release.
The project aims to enhance food security and strengthen the rural economy by developing and promoting climate-resilient technologies for crop production, fisheries and livestock management in Bangladesh’s haor region. It also seeks to build farmers’ capacity through training and knowledge transfer, enabling them to adopt sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.
Through the initiative, Prime Bank’s CSR funding will support research focused on developing locally adapted, climate-resilient farming technologies, conducting integrated scientific studies across key agricultural sectors, and empowering farming communities through practical training and extension services.
M Nazeem A Choudhury, additional managing director of the bank; Md Ziaur Rahman, additional managing director; Shahana Pervin, head of agro business; Prof Md Mojammel Haque, lead researcher and project director of the university; Mohammad Matiur Rahman, associate director of BAURES; and Paresh Kumar Sarma, senior scientific officer, were also present.
