MetLife launches health savings insurance with critical illness cover
MetLife Bangladesh has launched a health savings plan that combines critical illness protection with savings that policyholders can access for eligible healthcare expenses during the policy term.
The MetLife Health Savings Plan (MHSP) will allow customers to build a dedicated fund for future medical expenses while maintaining coverage against a range of critical illnesses, according to a company statement issued yesterday.
The plan covers critical illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and major organ transplantation, subject to the policy’s terms and conditions.
A key feature of the plan is its MetLife Health Wallet, which allows policyholders to access eligible accumulated value during the policy term to pay for healthcare-related expenses through a dedicated Health Card.
The Health Card will also provide discounts and other privileges across a designated medical network, MetLife said.
The insurer said the plan is intended to help customers prepare financially for future healthcare costs while providing protection against serious illnesses.
“Healthcare expenses are one of the biggest financial concerns for families today,” Ala Ahmad, chief executive officer of MetLife Bangladesh, said in the statement.
“MHSP is designed to help people prepare for those expenses before they arise. What makes this solution unique is that it combines health protection, health savings, and access to healthcare funds in one plan,” he added.
The launch comes as healthcare costs are becoming an increasingly important financial concern for Bangladeshi families, while insurance penetration in the country remains low compared with global averages, MetLife said.
MetLife Bangladesh serves more than one million individual customers and over 900 corporate clients across the country.
According to the press statement, the company settled Tk 1,384 crore in claims in the first half of 2026 and Tk 2.853 crore in 2025, the highest among all life insurers in Bangladesh during both periods.
With a claims settlement ratio of over 98 percent, MetLife continues to provide reliable financial protection to customers and their families, it added.
