Commerce ministry relaxes restriction on non-essential deliveries

The commerce ministry today lifted the restrictions on the delivery of most online businesses of non-essential products, including clothes, electronic goods, books and other items.

Issuing a circular, the commerce ministry has also allowed restaurants to open, but restrictions still remain on dining-in.

Online food delivery platforms can also can take orders but their deliverymen can't enter the restaurants, reads the circular.

The government also extended the time duration for online product delivery from 6AM to 10PM, which was earlier 8AM to 6PM.

"The commerce ministry said they took the steps following requests from the e-commerce industry," said Abdul Wahed Tomal, general secretary of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB).

"We were facing a huge challenge and these steps would help address the problem," said Tamal.
