Govt decides not to move VAT bill

The Government on Monday decided not to move the Value Added Tax Bill. 1991 in the Jatiya Sangsad for consideration. Chief Whip of the Treasury Bench Khandakar Deiwar Hossain informed the House that the Government had some new thoughts on the bill, and requested Deputy Speaker Sheikh Razzak All to adjourn the House for the day. The House was then adjourned till 4 p. m. today (Tuesday). Value Added Tax (VAT) is a new kind of tax proposed by Finance Minister Saifur Rahman to replace sales tax at import stage and excise duty on domestic manufactures and some service sectors, for ensuring transparency in taxation.
