'Shootouts' Again: Two 'robbers', one 'drug dealer' killed
Two alleged robbers and a suspected drug dealer were killed in "gunfights" with Rapid Action Battalion and police in Brahmanbaria and the Sundarbans yesterday.
A member of a "robber gang" was killed in a "gunfight" with Rab in the Sundarbans, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
The dead, Billal Mir alias Kana Billal, was the second-in-command of "Shamsu Bahini", according to Rab.
Deputy Commander of Rab-8 Maj Adnan Kabir said a Rab team was on a regular patrol in the Sundarbans yesterday morning when some robbers opened fire on the team in Sukhparar Char area under the Chandpai range of the Sundarbans East Zone.
The Rab men retaliated which led to the "gunfight".
After the "gunbattle", the body of Billal was found on the spot. The others fled, the Rab official claimed.
Rab also claimed to have recovered five firearms and 77 bullets from the spot.
In Brahmanbaria, a suspected robber and a drug dealer were killed in separate "shootouts" with police in Bijoynagar upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent there.
A "gunfight" between "robbers" and detectives took place at Khetabari in the upazila around 3:30am.
Robber Bulbul Islam alias "Builla" of Kalisima village in the upazila was found dead after the “shootout”, said Ali Arshad, officer-in-charge of Bijoynagar Police Station.
Police said Bulbul stood accused in five cases.
In another incident, an alleged drug dealer, Nurul Islam alias "Prakash Nuru" of Nalgaria village under the same upazila, was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Mirasani area around 4:30am, the police official said.
Police claimed to have recovered a firearm and several sharp weapons from the spot.
