Man dies of heart attack seeing assault on his son

A man died of heart attack he suffered when his son was being “assaulted” by a local union parishad member in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh yesterday, police said.

The dead is Khorshed Ali, 70, of Sreefaltola in Atharabari union.

Quoting locals and the victim's family members, Khandaker Abdullah Al Mamun, sub-inspector of Rayerbazar Police Investigation Centre in Atharabari, said there had been a longstanding feud between UP member Shamsu Miah and Korshed's son Ariful Islam Raju over the construction of a road on a piece of land.

Around noon yesterday, the two had an altercation over the matter near Raju's home. At one stage, Shamsu, also a joint convener of Atharabari Jubo League, allegedly assaulted Raju, the SI said.

Khorshed, who saw the incident, fainted immediately.

The man, who had high blood pressure, died on his way to Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex, said the SI.

Raju alleged that the UP member slapped and punched him several times.

Contacted, Shamsu denied beating Raju. “I just pushed him.”
