Man arrested over gang rape of Shariatpur girl

Police in Shariatpur yesterday arrested one man in connection with the gang rape of a student of class-VIII the night before.

A case has been filed with Palong Model Police Station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The incident occurred at Bogadi village under Chikondi union of Shariatpur Sadar upazila Friday night.  Chikondi Outpost police yesterday arrested Shahidul Islam Bepari, 21, in connection with his involvement in the crime.

Three others alleged to have been involved in the crime are on the run.

The rape victim has been admitted into Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.  She is a student of Chandrapur High School.

The young girl lived with her parents in Bogadi village under Chikondi union. On Friday after dinner she went to sleep in her uncle's house around 9:30pm.

According to the victim's family and local sources, at about 1:00am Shahidul Islam Bepari, son of Monsur Bepari of the area, along with Yasin Khan,  Parvez Munshi, and Iqbal Hossain stormed into the house and dragged her out to the yard.

The criminals then gagged her and raped her.

The victim was able to raise alarm when the culprits had fled.

On information, police went to the spot, recovered her and admitted her to the hospital, said officer-in-charge Md Khalilur Rahman of Palong Model Police Station.
