A woman and teenager raped in Gazipur

A woman and a teenaged girl were allegedly raped in separate incidents in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila.

A 20-year-old woman was raped by a man in Tepbari village in the upazila, said Khondaker Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreeepur Police Station, today.

Police arrested Zahid Hasan (25) from his home in Mulaid village of the upazila around 2:00pm after the victim filed a rape case against him with the police station last night, said the OC.

Zahid raped the victim at least 15 times from September 10 to September 25, promising to marry her, according to the case statement.

In another incident, a teenaged girl became pregnant after a neighbour raped her in Satkhamair village in Sreepur upazila, said OC Khondaker.

The neighbour, Ruman (25) raped the 15-year-old girl on May 22, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting the OC.

The girl narrated the rape incident to family members recently after she became pregnant, the OC said quoting family members.

The family filed a case against Ruman with Sreepur Police Station last night and police are trying to arrest the accused, said the OC.
