Ubisoft cancels Prince of Persia remake

By Tech & Startup Desk

Ubisoft has cancelled six video games, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, as part of a major corporate restructuring.

In a recent statement, the French game developer, known for Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, has mentioned that it will close several studios and delay seven other titles. Ubisoft has not disclosed the names of the other cancelled games but said they include four unannounced projects – three based on new intellectual property – and a mobile title.

As part of its strategy to focus on its most profitable franchises, Ubisoft’s subsidiary Vantage Studios – created following an investment from Chinese company Tencent – will now concentrate on turning Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six into what the company calls “annual billionaire brands.”

Originally announced for a January 2021 release, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was expected to be released by March 2026, as per a previous announcement from Ubisoft. The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released in 2003 and regarded as a gaming classic.
