Steps to stop Russia from using Starlink seem to have worked, Musk says

By Tech & Startup Desk

Elon Musk said that measures taken by SpaceX to prevent the unauthorised use of its Starlink satellite internet service by Russia appeared to be effective, amid concerns that the technology had been used in the war in Ukraine.

In a post on X on February 1, Musk, the chief executive of SpaceX, said, "Looks like the steps we took to stop the unauthorized use of Starlink by Russia have worked. Let us know if more needs to be done.”

He did not provide details on the specific measures implemented.

The comments followed remarks from Ukraine’s defence minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, who said last week that Kyiv was working with SpaceX to stop Russian forces from using Starlink to guide drones. Ukrainian officials have said they discovered Starlink equipment on long-range drones deployed in Russian attacks, according to a recent report by Reuters.
