In a spectacular showcase of Bengali cinema's finest talents, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon's directorial film "Hawa" emerged as a triumphant victor at the Suchitra Sen International Bengali Film Festival 2024 held at the iconic Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC) in New York. The festival, spanning two days from April 20 to 21, offers a platform for filmmakers from Bangladesh, India, and beyond to shine.

According to a press release, the film will be aired at 6:30 PM on the day of Eid, the third day of Eid, and the fifth day.

In case you don't recall, the actor turned producer Jaya Ahsan was awarded a government grant of Tk 60 lakh for her film project titled “Roid” during the 2020-21 fiscal year — set to be directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, renowned for the movie “Hawa”. However, three years later, both the director and producer announced that the film would proceed without government funding, under a new arrangement. Jaya Ahsan has already returned the initial instalment of the grant.

A voyage of university friends that initially began when casually belting out songs together on their campus transitioned officially in 2002. That year, these friends finally formed their band “Meghdol”. The popular rock band has now surpassed 20 years together, so now they are gearing up to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The “Hawa” director was offered the position of a jury member in the 5th edition of the Celluloid International Film Festival. The three-day long event kicks-off today and will continue until May 15, in Kolkata.
