Gorbomala The alphabets of pride

For this International Mother Language Day, The Daily Star and Grameenphone came up with an initiative to revive the book of alphabets, with a touch of patriotism. This thought led to the birth of Gorbomala, a campaign by The Daily Star and Grameenphone. The name, ‘gorbomala’ is derived from the term, ‘bornomala’, which means ‘a collection of letters’. ‘Gorbomala’ stands for ‘a collection of pride’.

Gorbomala is an interactive digital book that represents different aspects of Bangladesh, through the 52 Bangla letters. For example, 'shor-e-o' stands for 'Amor Ekushe' which represents 21st February, a historical event for Bangladesh, 'shor-e-aa' stands for 'Agortola Shorojontro Mamla', another event in the history of the independence of Bangladesh. All the alphabets stand for something that is associated with the history, culture, geography, notable persons, and many other aspects of our nation.  Readers can also know about those aspects in detail from the book, by turning the pages with clicks and learn about Bangladesh through the alphabets.

The campaign also allows engagement from user's end. The digital book is followed by a small quiz of five questions, taken from the book's content.

Gorbomala was promoted by a video, which starred famous singer and journalist Elita Karim and renowned director Ashfaque Nipun. In the video, they played a fun quiz with Bangla letters and talked about the campaign, which received a hugely positive response online.
