Newsprint papers is a cheap priced mass-produced type of paper that became the primary choice for newspapers and homemade notebooks for students back in the 90s.

The majority of newspaper production was in Khulna Newsprint Mill. However, prolonged loss with a shortage of capital had pushed the paper mill to shut down in 2002 - leading to 3,000 employees losing their jobs.

Over the next 20 years after its closure, the mill had an expense of TK 33 crore over its maintenance and office operations.
