Pabna’s Mother Language Movement in Ranesh Maitra's words

Star Special

Ever since Dhirendranath Datta proposed the recognition of Bangla in the Parliament of Pakistan in 1947, the students of Pabna, like the rest of the country, had taken to the streets, fighting for the Bangla language and for the rights of Bangalees.

Ekushey Medal-winning language soldier Ranesh Maitra tells The Daily Star the story of those times in Pabna, reminiscent of almost 70 years ago.

Today's Star Special is about Ranesh Maitra.
