Star Crime Files

Access to information and freedom of speech are constitutional rights of every citizen of a democratic country. The current government passed Digital Security Act in 2018. However, according to Bangladeshi news media, this act has been misused from time to time. Many even opined it to be conflicting with the citizens' right to legal protection.

According to Amnesty International, 433 people were charged under the Digital Security Act and detained in a year -- from July 11, 2020 to July 11, 2021 -- in Bangladesh.
