Gatir Gheri village in Khulna sinks twice a day

Star on the spot

The sunken Gatir Gheri village can easily be mistaken for a river. The village in Khulna's Koyra upazila gets submerged twice a day by saline water due to tidal surge.

Under dire circumstances, 92 inundated families, whose houses are flooded, are now seeking refuge on a dam. People are living an inhumane life by building shelters from plastic and palm leaves.

Government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are yet to come forward to help these families.

Today's 'star on the spot' is about the struggle of the people who are living on this dam.
