Fishermen switching professions due to lack of fish in rivers
Once upon a time, the rivers and reservoirs of Bangladesh were filled with fish. But the picture became grimmer over time. Fish are not easily found in Brahmaputra river anymore, off the coast of Kurigram. The fishermen in the area are heavily affected by this change. Many are forced to change their profession. The locals think that unregulated fishing is the main reason behind this loss of natural fishery.
The Daily Star published a report on the loss of fish in Brahmaputra and the subsequent suffering of the fishermen. Watch the gist of the report in today's Star News+.
