50 thousand Bangladeshi women trafficked to India every year!
According to a 2018 study by Border Security Force of India (BSF), and various reports and estimation of NGOs - around 50,000 Bangladeshi girls are trafficked to or through India every year.
The Daily Star senior reporter Shariful Islam interviewed the mothers of two such trafficked girls. One of the mothers had to traffic herself to rescue her daughter, and the other is still coming and going to government and law enforcement offices in an attempt to rescue her daughter.
These two affected mothers, from the same slum of Mirpur, whose children were trafficked by the same racket, have shared their stories in Star News+.
