Three stadiums set for BFF allocation
National Sports Council (NSC) is set to allot three venues for football after the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) applied for Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur, Sylhet Stadium and Chittagong Stadium for development under FIFA funds.
Although the local game’s governing body sought a 20-year allocation as per FIFA guidelines, the NSC is getting ready to allot all three stadiums for 22 years, keeping the processing time in mind.
“The agreement has already been finalised after both sides went through details of the draft agreement. We are expecting to sign an MoU with BFF within this month,” said NSC director (Sports) Aminul Ahesan at his office today.
Asked about the previous allocation of eight stadiums to the BFF, Aminul said, “When sports advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, under the interim government, was in office, there was a discussion of allocation of eight stadiums in Gazipur, Munshiganj, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Nilphamari, Noakhali, Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar to the football federation in August 2025, but the final decision was not taken at that time because we received objections from Chittagong and Gazipur.”
Aminul informed that BFF later appealed for the above three stadiums in the middle of January this year and that they started the process and are almost ready to sign the agreement with board.
NSC had also previously allotted different stadiums temporarily to the football federation to host the professional football league, national football championship or international tournaments. However, this time they are going to allot three stadiums for more than 20 years, especially as it requires a long-term contract with the government if BFF wants to develop those stadiums under FIFA/AFC funds.
Meanwhile, NSC had previously allotted Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur for 20 years for the installation of the FIFA Forward-funded artificial turf, and the contract will now be extended by two more years.
