BSJA Media Cup tourney to kick off after two-year hiatus

The Daily Star was drawn with Inqilab and News24 TV as the Kool-BSJA Media Cup football tournament is all set to return to the ground on Sunday at the Bangladesh Football Federation artificial turf following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic.

A total of 24 print, electronic and online-web portals, split into eight groups, will be competing in group stage, after which the eight group champions advance to the quarterfinals before the semifinals and final take place on March 31.

The aforementioned information was disclosed at the tournament's group-stage draw at the Bangladesh Olympic Association auditorium. Tournament trophies and the jerseys of participating teams were also unveiled.

Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA), country's leading organisation of professional sports journalists, is organising this popular football tournament with the financial help from Square Toiletries Ltd, who has been associated with BSJA over two decades.

Swadhin Bangla Football Team's vice-captain Pratap Sarkar Hazra, Square Toiletries Ltd's head of marketing Dr Jesmin Zaman, tournament committee convener Raihan Al Mughni, tournament committee member secretary Rabiul Islam were present in the draw event.

Wishing the tournament good luck, Pratap Sarkar Hazra said he once played a football competition against journalists and expressed his desire to watch some matches featuring the journalists.

Jesmin Zaman said that the Square Toiletries Limited has a long association with BSJA in arranging the BSJA media football, and in future they would also continue to do the same.

Group A: Independent TV, Maasranga TV and Janakantha

Group B: Somoy TV, Bangla Vision and Manabjamin

Group C: Ekattor TV, Boishakhi TV and Dhaka Post

Group D: News24 TV, The Daily Star and Inqilab

Group E: T Sports, Channel I and Jugantor

Group F: Jamuna TV, Shamakal and Prothom Alo

Group G: GTV, Dhaka Tribune and Daily Sun

Group H: Ekushey TV, Jagonews and Kalerkantho.
