Bangladesh go down 1-0 to Singapore despite improved performance

Bangladesh produced a much-improved performance but went down 1-0 to Singapore in their second match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Jakarta on Monday, with Harhys Stewart’s 35th-minute header proving the difference.

Thomas Dooley’s charges were more proactive and disciplined than in their 3-0 defeat to Malaysia, responding to the German-American coach’s demand for greater aggression and focus.

However, Singapore took the lead when Stewart rose unmarked to power a header past the Bangladesh goalkeeper from Abdullah Nur Adam’s cross.

Topu, Sohel out as Dooley makes four changes against Singapore

Dooley made four changes to the starting XI, with Jamal Bhuyan and Zidane Yousuf coming in for Sohel Rana and Shakil Ahad Topu.

The changes helped Bangladesh produce a more competitive display, but they were unable to find an equaliser and suffered their second defeat in as many matches.

Bangladesh will play their final group match against hosts Indonesia on Thursday.
