Argentine club invite Sheikh Jamal to play friendly at their home venue

A representative from Gimnasia de La Plata visited Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club training ground in Dhaka on Wednesday to present an invitation from the Argentine club to play a friendly at their home venue.

A Sheikh Jamal official confirmed the matter to The Daily Star today. The Gimnasia representative, Sebastian Gubia, was invited by the Bangladeshi club earlier.  

 "We were in touch with him (Sebastian) before as he had plans to visit Bangladesh. Yesterday he visited us during training and presented the invitation [of Argentina tour] on behalf of the Argentine club (Gimnasia). We intend to sit with him tomorrow (Friday) and further discuss the details," said Foyez, Sheikh Jamal general secretary.

Sebastian, a Gimnasia fan who is an architect and an ultra runner as well, had fulfilled his promise to visit Bangladesh after having witnessed the overwhelming support for the Argentina national team given by their fans in Bangladesh during the Qatar World Cup. He is accompanied by his wife, Carolina Cheli, in Bangladesh and the couple from La Plata took part in a running event organized by the Dhaka University Runners Community (DURC) in the capital today.

Earlier this month, Gimnasia club paid tribute to Bangladesh at their home ground as a Bangladesh flag was displayed behind an Argentine flag with words reading: Gracias Bangladesh -- Dhonnobaad (Thanks Bangladesh) prior to the kickoff of an Argentina Primera Division fixture at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium on February 06.
