Women’s cricketers complain over payment issue

Star Sports Report

Six cricketers of Sheikh Russel, who are yet to receive their payments for last season's Dhaka Premier Division's Women's Cricket League, lodged a complaint to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today.

"We got their letter. Payment issues are a thing of the past. However, as this came to light, we are taking the matter very seriously. We have instructed the clubs to clear any sort of outstanding payments before the start of the new season and inform us," informed Tawhid Mahmud, manager of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Women's Wing, to The Daily Star.

The Women's Dhaka Premier League, which returns after almost a three-year gap due to Covid, is expected to begin next week.

"Players' transfers of the upcoming women's cricket league took place today. We are planning to start the tournament anytime between May 18 to 20," added Tawhid.

Former Bangladesh skipper Salma Khatun and all-rounder Rumana Ahmed were signed by Mohammedan while pacer Jahanara Alam was roped in by Abahani.
