'We'll find out after the series': Inglis on Bangladesh's pace prowess
Bangladesh will take on Australia in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday, marking Australia's first ODI tour of Bangladesh in 15 years.
Bangladesh's home strategy has undergone a significant shift in recent years. Rather than relying on the slow, low surfaces that dominated much of the past decade, the Tigers have increasingly backed pace-friendly conditions, with their fast bowlers enjoying considerable success in recent series.
With Bangladesh's pace attack in the spotlight, Australia stand-in captain Josh Inglis was asked which side holds the edge in the fast-bowling department.
Australia are without frontline quicks Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for the series, but Inglis expressed confidence in the bowlers available to him.
"We'll find out after the series is played, I guess," Inglis said when asked which pace unit has the upper hand.
"Obviously, you take some big guys out of our squad, but I think the guys that have been playing a lot over the last couple of years -- your Nathan Ellises, Xavier Bartletts and Ben Dwarshuises -- have got a fair bit of experience at this level now. They're also incredibly exciting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do this series."
Speaking about Bangladesh speedster Nahid Rana, Inglis admitted the tearaway pacer could pose a serious challenge.
"I haven't seen a hell of a lot of him, but from what I have seen, he looks a really good bowler and a really exciting prospect. He's tall and he bowls fast, so it's a pretty nice combination to have. He's going to be really tough work for us all," Inglis said.
The Australian skipper also welcomed the challenge of facing Bangladesh in home conditions, while backing his side's ability to adapt.
"I think it's always challenging when we play Bangladesh. They're a very well-rounded side and, obviously, they're in their home conditions. A lot of us haven't been here before, but what we do have is an immense belief. I think it's going to be a really good series," he said.
