Warner garners new record, leaves ‘Universe Boss’ behind
David Warner is in scintillating form this Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Delhi Capitals. The experienced Aussie campaigner, these days, happens to be in a position of cementing new records almost every time he picks the willow, as proven yesterday when the flamboyant opener shined against his former club Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Warner has now surpassed Chris Gayle in the record for most half-centuries in the T20 edition and at the same time, he also reached the milestone of 400 sixes.
Warner's 92 yesterday was pivotal in Delhi's 21-run victory. Hyderabad could not score more than 180 runs in 20 overs as they chased Delhi's 206.
Warner, who reached his latest fifty off 34 balls, now owns the most half-centuries in the shortest version of cricket with 69 fifties, one more than the previous record holder, Chris Gayle. The lefty also touched the milestone of 400 sixes in T20 cricket with striking Aiden Markram's delivery over the long on. Warner became Australia's third and tenth all-time batter to have entered the 400 club. However, 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle is in a league of his own with 1,056 sixes.
