Warne tells Holder to appeal ‘ridiculous’ ban

Australia spin great Shane Warne criticised the ICC's decision to ban Windies captain Jason Holder for the third Test against England due to his side's slow over-rate in the second Test at Antigua.

West Indies have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series after crushing victories in the first two matches and Holder led from the front as England were thumped by 10 wickets. Although the match ended inside three days, ICC levied the one-Test suspension on Holder on the basis of overrate on a single day. According to the rules, a team is supposed to bowl particular number of overs at a certain rate on each day of a Test match.

Warne congratulated West Indies and also asked Holder to appeal the ban. "The Test didn't go 3 days - can you please appeal this @JaseHolder98! What a ridiculous decision. Where's the common sense here? P.S Congrats on a wonderful series win too. International cricket needs a strong Windies team & hopefully this is just the start @BrianLara," Warne tweeted.

Holder, 27, was named man of the match for his innings of 202 not out and two wickets in the 381-run win over England in the first Test in Barbados.

The Windies captain thanked Warne and the former player replied: "Pleasure ! The fans at the ground saw some awesome cricket from you & your team. No one at the ground would have felt short changed whatsoever. What a ridiculous decision & I hope this will be over turned !"
