Twenty-six collect nomination papers on first day

A total of 26 councillors collected nomination papers on Wednesday, the opening day of nomination form distribution for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election on June 7.

Among the 26 councillors, 12 are from Category-1 (Divisional and District Sports Associations), 12 from Category-2 (clubs), and two from Category-3 (others), collected their nomination papers.

11 councillors from Category-1 are Sayed Bin Zaman (Dhaka Division), Mohammad Samsuzzaman Samu (Rangpur Division), Mohammad Mizanur Rahman (Barishal Division), S M Abdullah Al Fuad (Jamalpur District), Minhajul Abedin Nannu (Chattogram District), Moyeen Uddin Chowdhury (Lakshmipur District), Moyeenuddin Nasir (Barishal District), Mohammad Muntasir Alam Chowdhury (Bhola District), Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto (Bogura District), Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Saheed (Gaibandha District), and Mohammad Rehatul Islam (Dinajpur District). One name, however, couldn’t be confirmed.

The 12 councillors from the club category are Fahim Sinha, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, Asif Rabbani, R S Nazmus Sakib, Abul Bashar, Tamim Iqbal Khan, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, Israfil Khosru, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Babu, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Syed Borhanul Hossain, and Shafiq Ahmed Salam.

Meanwhile, Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir of the University of Chittagong and former cricketer Mohammad Shahriar Hossain Bidyut collected nomination papers from Category-3.

A total of 10 directors will be elected from Category-1, 12 from Category-2, and one from Category-3. From Category-1, two directors each will be elected from Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna, while one each will represent Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barishal and Sylhet.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Ahsanul Karim, nomination papers will be distributed until 4:00pm on Thursday, with submissions open on Thursday and Friday. Scrutiny of nominations and publication of the provisional list will take place on May 23, followed by objections and hearings on May 24, and withdrawal of candidature and the final list on May 25.
