Sheikh Jamal rope in Mohammedan captain Mushfiqur

Mehedi Miraz follows Mushfiqur’s path
Star Sports Report

Bangladesh wicket-keeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim was geared to lead Mohammedan Sporting Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL), however, the experienced campaigner is set to feature for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club instead after the Black and Whites failed to progress into the Super League phase of the tournament.

According to the by-laws of DPL, if a player happens to remain unfeatured for their side whose campaign had ended, then that player can request for a transfer to another club who is still active in the competition.

In Mushfiqur's case, by the time the 34-year-old returned from South Africa following his Bangladesh assignment, Mohammedan were already in deep trouble and ultimately had gathered no more than 10 points as they stood seventh in the 11-team table and thus saw their way out of DPL.

Following Mohammedan's elimination, both Legends of Rupganj and table toppers Sheikh Jamal were interested to rope in the veteran batter but in the end, the latter secured their desired player, confirmed Sheikh Jamal management to The Daily Star on Saturday.

Mushfiqur would be itching to get back his batting form while Mohammedan, title aspirants before DPL began, would be reevaluating their performances as well feel they were hard done by with signings since, except for Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya Sarkar, the majority of their high-profile recruits, the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed and Mehedi Hasan Miraz could not help their cause.

Alongside Mushfiqur, Miraz will also be playing for the hot-favourites Sheikh Jamal.
