Shakib-aimed ‘negative post unintentionally published' on Barishal Facebook page

It turns out that the now-deleted "negative post" on Fortune Barishal's official Facebook page that was targeted at Shakib Al Hasan was "inadvertently" done after the pre-tournament favourites bowed out from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Sunday.

The Barishal media manager, Sekandar Ali, revealed that one of their page admins had rather intended to publish the now-deleted post from his personal account, the content of which was entirely based on Shakib's decision as the captain in the BPL Eliminator against Rangpur Riders.

The Barishal media manager told the media yesterday the page admin "said that the post went to the official page by mistake."

"The post has been deleted and the boy has been removed from admin and given a show cause notice," Sekandar added.

To many, perhaps the fact that Shakib Al Hasan did not choose to bat for his side against Rangpur came as a bigger surprise than the result of the Eliminator.

In the game at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, the stage was set for the Barishal skipper – the second-highest scorer with-the highest strike-rate (174.71) in the ongoing tournament -- as Barishal top order had laid the platform for a late onslaught, with scores at 126 for three after 15 overs.

And despite the franchise had ended up scoring 170 runs without losing further wicket, they were 15-20 runs short as the execution from the number four and five batters -- the newly arrived Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Karim Janat who were promoted up the order as per captain's call, according to Barishal coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim – left a lot to be desired.

In the end, Rangpur had the last laugh with a four-wicket victory, and they pulled off the chase with only three deliveries to spare, thus rubbing further salt into Barishal's wound.
