Mahmudullah’s uncharacteristic behaviour hogs spotlight

Star Sports Report

Bangladesh batter and captain of the Tigers T20 side Mahmudullah Riyad hogged the spotlight for the wrong reason as the experienced campaigner lost his cool during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.

The right-hander had toiled hard from his end to bring Mohammedan out of trouble as wickets kept falling at regular intervals from the other end. However, a length delivery from left-arm spinner Enamul Haque Jr. kept surprisingly low and kissed Mahmudullah's bat before dropping into the wicketkeeper's gloves.

Mahmudullah, vividly upset with his dismissal after a 52-ball 48-run knock, proceeded to vent his frustrations by kicking the dressing room doors. Riyad's outburst had understandably raised many eyebrows and the 'crisis man' for the Tigers, renowned for his composure under pressure, could well end up on the receiving end of a mini crisis as disciplinary hearing resulting from his unsporting gesture is likely on the cards.

It was learnt that the batter was apparently displeased with the behaviour of the pitch.

Meanwhile, Enamul paved the way for his side Rupganj to a seven-wicket victory as his five-wicket haul for 41 runs dismissed Mohammedan for 143 runs.
