Khulna thrash Barishal, Taibur ton turns it around for Dhaka
Khulna Division wrapped up proceedings on the third day at Khulna Divisional Stadium on Monday, handing Barishal an innings-and-135-run defeat in the first round of the National Cricket League. The result was all but certain at the end of day two after Barishal were bowled out for 94 in their first innings and forced to follow on.
Sofor Ali, who took two wickets in the first innings, returned with four for 31 in the second as Barishal were dismissed for 197. Hafizur Rahman offered lone resistance with a 145-ball 91, while Khulna spinner Sheikh Parvez Jibon claimed three more wickets to finish with a match haul of six.
At Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka Division turned their fortunes around against Rangpur through an immense seventh-wicket partnership between Taibur Rahman and Sumon Khan. Dhaka had started the day with six wickets down and still 220 runs behind.
Taibur struck his eighth first-class century, scoring 108 off 201 balls, and in the process reached 5,000 first-class runs. Sumon narrowly missed out on a century, making 94 off 283 balls in an innings that lasted more than six hours as Dhaka were bowled out for 284.
Despite conceding a 56-run lead, Rangpur suffered a disastrous start to their second innings, losing three top-order batters without a run on the board. They reached stumps at 6-3, with Ripon Mondol, Arif Ahmed and Anamul Haque taking a wicket apiece for a resurgent Dhaka pace attack.
At the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram, the hosts were bowled out for 393 after starting the day on 190 without loss, giving them a slender 29-run first-innings lead over Rajshahi.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy, unbeaten on 102 overnight, was dismissed early in the day after adding three runs. Sadikur Rahman carried on from his overnight 86 to score his fourth first-class century, making 115 off 158 balls.
Tasamul Haque scored a fifty and Irfan Shukkur made 86 as Chattogram reached 393, with SM Meherob taking four for 94 for Rajshahi. Rajshahi reached 46-2 in their second innings at stumps, giving them a 17-run overall lead.
Mymensingh Division were in a strong position against Sylhet at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, taking a 132-run lead by stumps.
Mahfijul Islam Robin remained unbeaten on 86, while Khalid Hasan scored a fifty before falling in the final over of the day as Mymensingh reached 148-1. Earlier, Asadullah Al Galib’s 67 and Tofael Ahmed’s 59 helped Sylhet reach 327 all out, with Azizul Hakim taking four for 79.
