Journalists boycott Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup final

Sports journalists across all media houses of the country boycotted the final of the Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup on Monday in protest of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issuing a warning to a photojournalist of The Daily Sun for clicking pictures which were published by the newspaper on February 7.

The letter from BCB was sent via email to photojournalist Tanvin Tamim, which went against the board’s usual practice of contacting the media organisation itself over any breach of conduct.

Sports reporters of various organisations gathered at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium premises on Monday to hold discussions on the issue.

Following discussions, journalists stood at the top of the media box and held a banner saying ‘Journalism is not a crime’ to protest the incident. They also set an ultimatum till 6:00pm for BCB to respond to their grievances and informed the BCB media department that they would boycott the final otherwise.

As there was no positive response from BCB on the matter, journalists left the press box, boycotting the final.
