Hathurusingha unlike the type of person we assume, says Sujon

Former Bangladesh captain and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, backed the re-appointment of Chandika Hathurusingha as the new Bangladesh head coach, and he also revealed that the environment in the dressing room was friendly during his first tenure.

There were talks that Hathurusingha's relation with some of the senior players witnessed a downfall before his resignation. However, Mahmud informed that the Sri Lankan possesses a clear mindset.

"The environment of the dressing room during his first tenure remained clean. We hear in the media that he talks like a strict headmaster but I don't think he is strict as he is not the type of person we assume," Mahmud, who is the head coach of Khulna Tigers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, told the media after the training on Tuesday.

"The thing is, he does not like to talk in the absence of someone. Rather, he likes to talk in front. This is the nature of a good human, and I think he is a good person," he added.

Following Hathurusingha's resignation back in 2017, the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed that the Lankan coach was not pleased over Shakib Al Hasan's dedication towards the team.

During his upcoming second stint, Hathurusingha will have Shakib as the Tigers Test and T20I skipper. Mahmud is optimistic over a better tuning between the two this time around.

"Shakib or Tamim, they are definitely respected. Whether it's a big cricketer or a senior player, everyone is important for the team. Even a young cricketer got the deserving respect from Hathursingha," he added.

The 54-year-old Lankan is expected to arrive Bangladesh by February 20 as the Tigers will begin the new journey under Hathurusingha from the upcoming home series against England next month.
