Former umpire Asghar dies at 73
Former international umpire Mohammad Asghar passed away on Saturday at the age of 73.
A respected figure in domestic cricket since Bangladesh’s independence, Asghar officiated numerous first-class and top-tier domestic matches.
He also officiated in fixtures involving touring international sides and performed the role of TV umpire in seven One-Day Internationals. He remained active until 2021, serving his final role as a match referee.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed deep sorrow at his passing, extending its heartfelt condolences to Asghar’s family.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held today, and he will be laid to rest at Dhaka’s Azimpur Graveyard.
