BCB launches D3 to revive domestic cricket

• Six teams will compete across three formats, featuring 42 matches—seven four-day, 16 one-day and 19 T20.
   
• The T20 tournament starts on December 15, followed by the four-day and one-day competitions in January and May next year, respectively.
   
• Team owners: ACE Blue Star, Acme, Citizens Bank, Seven Rings Cement, Fortune and Walton, with rights for three seasons.
   
• Icon players: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Walton), Tawhid Hridoy (Fortune), Mosaddek Hossain (Acme), Mushfiqur Rahim (Seven Rings Cement), Nurul Hasan Sohan (ACE Blue Star) and Mohammad Naim (Citizens Bank).
   
• Players’ draft: October 26, with each team set to pick 23 players for its squad. The management draft will take place on September 29.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched a new domestic competition, D3 (Domestic 3), in a bid to bring renewed excitement and interest to Bangladesh’s domestic cricket.

The tournament will unite three formats of the game under one identity with the motto, “Bringing colour back to domestic cricket.”

Speaking at the launching ceremony at a city hotel on Sunday, BCB president Tamim Iqbal said the main objective was to restore the appeal of domestic cricket. He expressed confidence that the new competition would bring significant changes to the domestic cricket structure.

Tamim noted that domestic cricket had often been criticised for losing its excitement and being described as “picnic cricket.” He said the BCB had already introduced the NCL Second XI alongside the existing National Cricket League (NCL) to strengthen the domestic system.

The D3 competition will replace the NCL T20, Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) four-day and BCL one-day tournaments. According to Tamim, eight interested parties have shown interest in taking over six teams.

The opening T20 tournament is planned to be held in Barishal, with Dhaka also selected as a venue. Tamim urged the authorities to complete the remaining work at the Barishal venue.

Tamim also told reporters that 50 percent of the revenue from sponsorships and ticket sales will be shared with the teams.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque attended the event as chief guest and formally inaugurated the competition.
