A floodlight in the eastern gallery of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur caught fire while the national team were going through closed-door match-scenario training today.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain were batting when fire broke out. The players moved away from that side of the ground following the incident.

According to BCB grounds committee officials, the fire resulted from an electrical short circuit and lasted for about two minutes. It is understood that all floodlights were turned on due to today's overcast conditions.

The media were allowed a 15-minute slot for taking footage. The national team, however, resumed training shortly after.

"The floodlights caught fire at 4:25 pm after which two units responded to put it out. Damages estimated to around Tk 50,000, while goods worth about Tk 1 lakh were salvaged," fire-service control room duty officer Khaleda Yasmin told The Daily Star.
