'We were at fault for second ODI loss'

Mehedi Hasan Miraz has possibly been the only success story on Bangladesh's tour of West Indies so far as he has been the only consistent performer across both the Test and ODI series. He had a five-wicket haul in the first Test and has conceded runs at just 3.85 per over in the two ODIs so far while taking two wickets, including that of Chris Gayle in the second ODI on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old will need to chime in again in today's third ODI in St Kitts after Bangladesh wasted a golden opportunity to win the series in Guyana, where the first two ODI were played in spin-friendly conditions. Bangladesh lost the second match by three runs after needing just eight runs off the last over and having been in dominant positions in various stages in the match.

Bangladesh had won the first match by 48 runs and the series is levelled as 1-1.

"We obviously had the opportunity. But we are not out of the series yet, we still have a chance," said Mehedi during Bangladesh's optional practice session at Warren Park in St Kitts yesterday. "We have another opportunity and if we can do well and win the match we will have won the series.

"I would say that we were the ones at fault and it was our failure. But we talked amongst ourselves about it and I am hopeful that when a situation like that arises next time, we will be able to overcome it."

It was a golden opportunity in Guyana because in St Kitts, the pitch will be more batting-friendly and that would be to the advantage of the hosts' big hitters, as will be the smaller boundaries.

"We saw the wicket and I thought that if everything goes fine we will do something good. I have come here for the first time, but there are experienced players who have come here a lot. I hope that we can show something good tomorrow [Saturday]."
