Salma Khatun: The Tigresses' captain
Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun, who hails from Khulna is a right-arm off spinner and one of the best all-rounders that Bangladesh have produced in Women's cricket.
Salma is ranked 10th in the T20 all-rounder rankings this year with 215 points and the 27-year old has always been one of the top all-rounders in the world. Back in 2015, Salma topped the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings with 291 rating points. She was also ranked as the number one T20 bowler in the ICC Player Rankings that year.
The Bangladesh team had a victorious international debut when they won two matches against Thailand in a series played in July 2007. They then went on to compete against China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand and the UAE to win the ACC Women's Cricket Tournament in the same year of their international debut. Within a span of four years, the team was granted the one-day status in 2011, after beating the United States and finishing fifth in the same year in Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Salma Khatun has been at the helm of these successes as the captain of the team since 2008.
Today Salma led the Tigresses to their first major international trophy as they managed to beat formidable India in the final of the T20 Asia cup by three wickets in a scintillating finish.
Salma bowled four overs and picked up a wicket for 24 runs. She was at the other end and ran two along with striker Jahanara Alam off the last delivery of the innings with Bangladesh needing two from the last delivery to clinch a tight game.
A tough character, she today led the Tigresses to their crowning moment.
