‘Sad that we dropped catches of someone who went on to score 200’
Things tilted from positive to negative early in the day for the Tigers. They had another bad day on the field as New Zealand piled up the runs to take the game away from Bangladesh but things could easily have been different if Tigers held on to the chances they were provided with early in the Kiwi innings today.
First it was skipper Mahmudullah Riyad and then youngster Shadman Islam, who dropped chances off the bowling of Abu Jayed Rahi in the same over; the paceman was in a good vein following his earlier wickets yesterday. That it was Ross Taylor who got away, completely turned the tables as he struck a double ton after being dropped twice on 20. Tamim Iqbal was not happy.
"It's obviously a sad part that we missed the catch of someone in the same over who went on to score 200," he said. With Bangladesh facing the prospect of another defeat with New Zealand needing seven more wickets, Tamim believes that the catches could have seen Tigers bat a little less in this Test match. Taylor not only struck 200 but his runs came in quick time.
"If that [dropped catches] did not happen then the way our bowlers bowled, we might have had to bat a little less in this Test match. Anyone can miss a catch. I'm sure those who dropped the chances feel bad about it but it's part of cricket. It's bad that it happened. There is nothing I can really say about it," he remarked exasperatedly.
Asked if a defeat will be embarrassing since two days were washed out due to rain, Tamim said: "Obviously it will be bad. This is not something you can hide."
Tamim however informed that such thoughts were not yet troubling the Tigers. "We are not thinking about it [embarrassing defeat] as the match is not over yet. I wish that things will take a positive turn for us now."
