Fizz suffers ankle injury

Star Online Report

Bangladesh star paceman Mustafizur Rahman suffered an injury to his left leg ankle during practice yesterday with his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Shinepukur Cricket Club. The injury is set to sideline him for two weeks, according to BCB sources.

Mustafizur last played DPL back in December 27 of 2014 before returning to action this season. On his return, he bagged three wickets in a fiery spell against Gazi Group on April 8. The injury adds doubt to his World Cup preparation with Tigers heading to Ireland on April 27 to play a tri-nation series with hosts Ireland and New Zealand.

Fizz underwent an X-ray today and his fitness will be reviewed two weeks later. "The X-rays did not reveal anything serious. We reviewed the X-ray. He will rest partially with little exercises in between and his condition will be reassessed two weeks from now," said BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury.

Owing to questions about nature of injury, the BCB chief physician informed that it was a lateral ankle sprain. "There is no fracture related injury here. There is some pain in the ligament, a lateral ankle sprain. He had suffered this kind of sprain before but prediction regarding these injuries are difficult," he informed.

Bangladesh team will be undertaking a training camp to start off their preparations for the World Cup and the tri-nation series. Fizz may not be fully fit when the camp starts. "When the camp will begin, he will be in rehabilitation process, so he will not participate in the skill camp. When we review his condition after two weeks, we will be able to tell if he can participate in the skill training," he concluded.
