Greenridge returning for reunion
Former Bangladesh coach and West Indian legend Gordon Greenridge will arrive in Bangladesh today to attend a reunion hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board including former Bangladesh players and officials.
Greenridge, who guided Bangladesh to a fantastic triumph in the 1997 ICC Trophy, urged Asian Cricket Council CEO Syed Ashraful Islam for the reunion. Ashraful conveyed the message to BCB president Nazmul Hassan and the BCB decided to host the members at the Sonargaon Hotel tomorrow.
"He [Greenridge] showed interest to come to Bangladesh as he was involved with our cricket at a very crucial period. He wanted to meet the players and officials from his tenure between 1997 and 1999 and we agreed to his request," BCB director Enayet Hossain Siraj told reporters yesterday.
During his five-day stay in Bangladesh the 67-year-old is also expected to give a motivational speech to the High Performance cricketers of Bangladesh.
Greenridge, an honorary citizen of Bangladesh, did not hold any grudges after being dismissed just before the final game of the 1999 World Cup, where Bangladesh defeated Pakistan, and visited the country several times afterwards.
