Metro rail authorities will increase the number of trips tomorrow to facilitate mourners attending the namaz-e-janaza of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

Iftikhar Hossain, general manager (operations) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), said the government has declared Wednesday a general holiday, on which metro rail services usually operate fewer trips -- 169 in total.

"However, we will increase the number of trips tomorrow to facilitate people in joining the namaz-e-janaza of Khaleda Zia," he told The Daily Star today.

Responding to a query, he said the number of trips would be increased based on necessity and operational capacity.

Khaleda Zia passed away while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka early today.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said her namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the Parliament complex on Manik Mia Avenue at 2:00pm tomorrow.
